A 46-year-old man has been sentenced to 12 years in prison by the Næstved Court (Retten i Næstved) for killing his long-time friend, Søren Eliassen, with multiple knife stabs. The murder took place in an apartment in Korsør, Denmark, on March 17, 2023. According to court information, Eliassen suffered seven stab wounds to his body, along with several cuts and bruises from blunt force trauma.
At the time of the incident, both the accused and the victim were alone in the apartment, where they had been drinking heavily throughout the day. The convicted man claimed that he experienced a blackout and woke up with blood on his hands and arms. The court found a knife with a bent blade at the crime scene and established the man’s guilt.
During the trial, the accused stated that he could not remember the event, but previously, he had told the police that he stabbed his friend multiple times in response to the friend making sexual advances. This claim was presented in court, but his memory issues were not accepted as a credible defense.
After the murder, the police received a report of the incident at 9:30 PM on March 17. Shortly thereafter, Deputy Police Inspector Rune Dahl Nilsson confirmed that a person had been arrested at the scene, which later turned out to be the convicted man. He now has two weeks to consider whether he will appeal the conviction.
