A participant in the DHL Relay (DHL Stafetten) running event in Fælledparken, Copenhagen, experienced cardiac arrest on Tuesday evening. The incident was confirmed by the event’s organizer, Sparta Athletics and Running (Sparta Atletik og Løb). According to reports, the cardiac arrest occurred while the individual was participating in the race, but swift action from nearby helpers resulted in the heart being restarted quickly. Communication Director Bodil Kjærgaard from Sparta discussed the rapid response that saved the runner’s life.
The DHL Relay, which was launched in Copenhagen in 1991 and is sponsored by the logistics company DHL, is a popular event that attracted 130,000 participants over five days last year. In addition to Copenhagen, the relay also takes place in Aarhus, Aalborg, and Odense, making it a significant event in Denmark’s sporting calendar.
