Churches on Lolland and Falster have once again fallen victim to thefts, this time with a focus on valuable copper. According to the latest daily report from the South Zealand and Lolland-Falster Police (Sydsjællands- og Lolland-Falsters Politi), both the Lindeskov Church in Nykøbing Falster and the chapel at Nakskov Cemetery have suffered significant losses due to copper thefts.

Lindeskov Church has had large quantities of copper roofing plates removed. Thomas Carlsen, the church manager, estimates that about half a ton of copper has been stolen, which could have a value of around 25,000 Danish kroner (approximately 3,500 USD) on the black market. However, the financial implications for the church are much greater, as the repairs will be an expensive undertaking.

Similarly, the chapel at Nakskov Cemetery has been robbed of several copper downpipes. Stanley Priergaard, the cemetery manager in Nakskov, reported that the costs to repair the damages may reach up to 100,000 Danish kroner (about 14,000 USD).

The police have not yet determined whether there is a direct connection between the two thefts, although the immediate similarities may suggest so. The theft at Nykøbing Falster is believed to have occurred between Sunday, August 18, and Wednesday morning, while the timing of the incident in Nakskov has not been specified, but it was reported discovered on Wednesday morning.

South Zealand and Lolland-Falster Police are now asking the public for assistance. Anyone with information about the thefts is encouraged to contact them at phone number 114.
