Nikolaj Arcel’s film “Bastarden” has once again made an impression at a Danish awards ceremony. After previously securing four Bodil Awards (Bodilpriser) and four Robert statuettes, the film has now been honored as the Best Danish Film at the 2024 Svend Awards (Svend Prisen). Mads Mikkelsen stars in the lead role as Ludvig Kahlen, a soldier determined to cultivate the heathlands of Jutland, facing off against landowner Frederik de Schinkel, portrayed by Simon Bennebjerg.
On the same evening, Bodil Jørgensen not only received the Honorary Award (Ã…rets Hæderspris), as previously announced, but also won the award for Best Female Actor for her role in “Rom”. Lars Ranthe, who was the host for the evening, took on a unique dual role by also winning the award for Best Male Lead for his performance as an alcoholic father in “Fuld af kærlighed” (“Full of Love”).
The TV series “Badehotellet” (“The Bath Hotel”) also had a splendid evening, receiving awards for Best Danish TV Drama Series and the Jury’s Special Award. The 2024 Svend Awards mark their 20th anniversary, evaluating films and TV series based on audience voting. The event is organized by Destination Fyn, the Danish Producers Association (Producentforeningen), Fafid, FilmFyn, and Svendborg Municipality (Svendborg Kommune). This year’s foreign accolade went to the film “Oppenheimer,” which was named Best Foreign Film.
