The government has surprised many with a significant reshuffle and the establishment of new ministries. The announcement includes the names of leaders who will head three newly created ministries, marking a historic increase in the number of ministers. With this latest reshuffle, the SVM government (Social Democrats, Moderates, and Venstre – Liberal Party) reaches a total of 25 ministers, setting a new record.
Marie Bjerre from the Venstre party has been appointed as the Minister for Europe. Torsten Schack Pedersen, also from Venstre, assumes the newly established position of Minister for Preparedness. Jeppe Bruus from the Social Democrats will take responsibility for a new ministry dedicated to the implementation of the green tripartite agreement. According to Bruus, this represents a “massive task” that requires coordination across several ministries.
“I have participated in meetings since the agreement was made with the parties of the Folketing (the Danish Parliament) before the summer. Now I will be responsible for leading this work. The goal is to increase pressure and unify efforts,” says Jeppe Bruus.
The new ministers will formally receive their titles during a presentation to the monarch at Amalienborg Palace at 11 AM.
Torsten Schack Pedersen expressed his anticipation for participating in the new security agenda as Minister for Preparedness. “We are facing a radically changed security situation compared to a few years ago. There was no hesitation on my part to take on this task. I bring 20 years of parliamentary experience,” states Schack Pedersen.
The changes also affect existing ministerial roles. Culture Minister Jakob Engel-Schmidt from the Moderates will now be part of the government’s leadership committee, ensuring that all three parties are represented. The area of gender equality will be moved to the Ministry of Environment, where Magnus Heunicke will now hold the title of Minister for Environment and Equality. Additionally, a new independent Ministry for the Elderly is being established, with Mette Kierkgaard from the Moderates as the minister.
These changes reflect a government that is adjusting its priorities and resources in order to address current challenges more effectively.
