Danish Government Announces New Ministers and Restructuring in Cabinet

The government has announced the leadership of the three new ministries that were revealed earlier this week. Among the new faces in the ministerial team is Marie Bjerre (V) who will take over as Minister for European Affairs, Torsten Schack Pedersen (V) who will assume the role of Minister for Emergency Management, and Jeppe Bruus (S) who will now lead the implementation of the green tripartite agreement. These changes were confirmed in a press release from the Prime Minister’s Office.

The new ministers will soon meet with King Frederik at Amalienborg Palace, where they will be officially presented at 11 AM. Following Jeppe Bruus’s shift to the green tripartite agreement, Member of Parliament Rasmus Stoklund (S) will take on the position of Minister of Taxation. Meanwhile, Caroline Stage Olsen, who has been a special advisor to Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen (M), has been appointed Minister for Digitalization with an expanded portfolio.

Sophie Hæstorp Andersen (S), the Mayor of Copenhagen, will take over as Minister for Social Affairs and Housing, resulting in the current Minister Pernille Rosenkrantz-Theil (S) stepping down from the government. Rosenkrantz-Theil has announced her intention to run for the position of Mayor of Copenhagen. At the same time, Minister for Development Cooperation and Global Climate Policy Dan Jørgensen (S) is preparing to step down as he is a candidate for a position as an EU Commissioner.

To strengthen the government’s green committee, Culture Minister Jakob Engel-Schmidt (M) will also join this committee. This means that there will now be representatives from all three governing parties. Additionally, the responsibility for gender equality will shift to the Ministry of Environment, where Magnus Heunicke (S) will now serve as both Minister for Environment and Minister for Gender Equality. Furthermore, a new Ministry for the Elderly will be established, which will be led by Mette Kierkgaard (M).

These changes signify significant restructuring within the government, introducing new faces and shifting responsibilities.
