The Danish People’s Party (Dansk Folkeparti) is undergoing a minor reshuffle, with Mikkel Bjørn taking over the position of spokesperson for immigration and integration from Pia Kjærsgaard. Kjærsgaard, who has held this role since the mid-1980s, expressed satisfaction with the change, stating that she has long wished to step down from the position.
“I have discussed this with Morten Messerschmidt for a long time, as I originally wanted to retire after many years in the role. So, it could not happen at a better time,” Kjærsgaard told B.T., a Danish tabloid newspaper, while smiling. She added that she has full confidence that Mikkel Bjørn will manage the task effectively.
In the wake of this change, Pia Kjærsgaard will take on the role of spokesperson for culture, a position she looks forward to with enthusiasm. In addition to this, she will continue serving as the spokesperson for senior citizens, animal welfare, and values.
Pia Kjærsgaard first entered the Danish Parliament (Folketinget) in 1984 as a member of the Progress Party (Fremskridtspartiet). After a series of disagreements with party founder Mogens Glistrup, she led the establishment of the Danish People’s Party, which is currently holding its summer group meeting today.
