On Wednesday evening, a sailing ship encountered an unfortunate incident off the coast of Gudhjem, a town on the island of Bornholm in Denmark, where the vessel ran aground. However, local residents quickly stepped in and organized a rescue operation, during which one man from the ship was transferred to safety in a rubber dinghy.
Mathias Buus, the on-duty officer from the Bornholm Police (Bornholms Politi), stated that fortunately, there were no fatal outcomes: “Fortunately, no one has drowned,” he reported. According to his information, the man was briefly in the water but was quickly rescued by the fast-acting locals.
Efforts to salvage the ship are ongoing, but they are being challenged by high waves that may cause the recovery operation to be delayed until the next morning. Mathias Buus praised the locals for their quick response and thanked them for their assistance: “They have certainly done a good job. They deserve our thanks,” said the Bornholm Police. The police were notified of the incident at 9:40 PM, after which the successful rescue operation was initiated.
