On Thursday afternoon, a tragic traffic accident occurred on Seggelund Hovedvej near Christiansfeld, Denmark, resulting in the death of a 51-year-old man. According to the South East Jutland Police (Sydøstjyllands Politi), two cars collided, leading to the fatal incident. The police received the report at 1:53 PM, and emergency services, including police, ambulances, and firefighters, were promptly dispatched to the scene.
The deceased man was a local resident and was a passenger in a vehicle driven by a 76-year-old woman. The other car involved was driven by a 41-year-old woman from Haderslev, who is now in critical condition. The exact cause of the accident is still unknown, but it occurred during an overtaking maneuver.
Police chief Steffen Wolf reported that it is not yet clear which party was responsible for the overtaking. Both women are receiving treatment at the hospital, where blood samples have been taken to determine if alcohol was a factor in the crash. Breathalyzer tests could not be conducted due to their medical conditions.
A vehicle inspector is investigating the accident site to understand the sequence of events, and police are awaiting the inspector’s report. Witness interviews will subsequently be conducted to further uncover the circumstances that led to the tragic incident.
Seggelund Hovedvej remained closed until 5:00 PM but was reopened later in the evening. The relatives of the deceased man have been informed about the accident. According to the police, the condition of the 76-year-old woman is not currently critical.
