Lars Boje Mathiesen, former leader of the Nye Borgerlige (New Bourgeois) political party in Denmark, has received official approval from the Election Board (Valgnævnet) for his new political venture, Borgernes Parti (The Citizens’ Party). As the party’s chairman, Mathiesen is now able to begin collecting the necessary voter declarations to participate in the upcoming parliamentary elections.
After an initial rejection in June, where the name Borgernes Parti was turned down due to its similarity to the existing Borgernes Folkeparti (The Citizens’ People’s Party), the inclusion of Mathiesen’s name has been crucial for the approval. Mathiesen noted that the original application was submitted by a partner, which led to the earlier denial.
With the Election Board’s new endorsement, Borgernes Parti follows the precedent set by the Danmarksdemokraterne (Democrats of Denmark), which also received approval for its full party name by incorporating the founder’s name, exemplified by “Danmarksdemokraterne – Inger Støjberg” (Democrats of Denmark – Inger Støjberg).
This development allows Lars Boje Mathiesen and his party to actively work towards gathering the required 20,195 voter declarations to secure a position in Danish politics in the next election. This marks a new beginning for Mathiesen in his political career.
