Pernille Rosenkrantz-Theil steps down as minister to run for Copenhagen mayor.

Pernille Rosenkrantz-Theil has announced her decision to leave her position as Minister of Social Affairs and Housing to pursue the role of Mayor of Copenhagen. With her background and experiences, she aims to compete for the city’s top leadership position.

In a post on Facebook, Rosenkrantz-Theil expressed her enthusiasm for this new ambition. She wrote, “It will be a huge yes! I am incredibly eager to be the mayoral candidate in Copenhagen. And now I have been encouraged to take the leap. So – YES PLEASE.” She looks forward to utilizing her ministerial experience to make Copenhagen an even better place to live.

Rosenkrantz-Theil’s announcement comes shortly after the SVM government (a coalition of the Socialdemokratiet, the Venstre Party, and the Moderates) disclosed a series of ministerial reshuffles. Among the changes, the current Mayor of Copenhagen, Sophie Hæstorp Andersen, will take over the role of Minister of Social Affairs and Housing.

In her post, the former minister elaborated on her motivations for aspiring to the mayoral office. She noted that, as a minister, she observed that other municipalities operate more efficiently than Copenhagen in several key areas. She specifically pointed out issues with long processing times and less user-friendly systems in the capital. “Why not strive for the capital to be state of the art in all aspects? After all, we are the capital,” she wrote, adding, “I want to have Denmark’s most humane and well-functioning welfare society in Copenhagen.”

In conclusion, she called for support from both her party and the residents of Copenhagen: “And from here, I hope to receive the backing of the Copenhageners to begin turning dreams into reality.”

Pernille Rosenkrantz-Theil has been a member of the Danish Parliament (Folketing) since 2011 for the Socialdemokratiet (Social Democratic Party), and before that, she was also a member of the Parliament for Enhedslisten (the Red-Green Alliance). Her departure from her ministerial position will be marked by a farewell audience with King Frederik.
