**Venstre Selects Jan E. Jørgensen as New Political Spokesperson**
On Thursday, the Liberal Party of Denmark (Venstre) appointed Jan E. Jørgensen as their new political spokesperson. This change follows the designation of Torsten Schack Pedersen as a minister in the latest government reshuffle.
In a post on his Facebook profile, Jørgensen expressed his great honor in taking on the new role, stating, “This is very significant – and I will do my utmost to serve my party – and if we want to be a bit lofty – my country and our democracy.” Jørgensen, who has previously held positions as cultural spokesperson, tax spokesperson, and public affairs spokesperson, looks forward to participating broadly in political discussions. He even referenced the fictional agent Dale Cooper from the television series “Twin Peaks” in his announcement, emphasizing that no major political statements would be made by him on that day.
Torsten Schack Pedersen, Jørgensen’s predecessor, served as political spokesperson for less than a year before being appointed as the Minister for Society Safety and Preparedness (Minister for Samfundssikkerhed og Beredskab). Jørgensen has been a member of the Danish Parliament (Folketinget) since 2011 and also serves on the municipal council in Frederiksberg, where he holds the position of councilman.
Jørgensen is known for being a more moderate voice on immigration policy and has previously acted as an internal counterbalance to Inger Støjberg, a prominent figure within Venstre. In 2018, he published a book titled “A True Liberal” (En ægte liberal) in collaboration with journalist Bent Winther. It remains uncertain whether the new ministerial reshuffle will result in further changes among Venstre’s spokespersons.
