A tragic accident occurred on Thursday evening involving a group of young people from IBC Aabenraa, a vocational school in Denmark. A 19-year-old man lost his life after being struck by a motorist. The young man had been celebrating with his classmates in a party bus when the accident took place while he was crossing a road near Aabenraa around 10:30 PM.
“The 19-year-old had been out celebrating in a party bus before he was hit by a car,” stated duty officer Eli Gejsing from the South and Sønderjylland Police (Syd- og Sønderjyllands Politi). The driver of the vehicle that struck the man was taken to the hospital for examination but did not sustain any injuries. There are no indications that the driver was speeding or under the influence of alcohol or drugs, according to the police. “No charges have been filed,” confirmed Eli Gejsing.
On Friday, many affected students gathered at IBC Aabenraa, where crisis support services were made available. Students had the opportunity to speak with crisis psychologists, teachers, and school administration. In an effort to provide further support to the students, South and Sønderjylland Police will hold a meeting next week, where students can talk with a priest as well as representatives from victim counseling and the police.
This initiative is part of the support aimed at students who may require additional assistance following the shocking and tragic event that has shaken the local community.
