A comprehensive complaint submitted to the Danish Working Environment Authority (Arbejdstilsynet) reveals significant issues concerning the work environment within the Moderate Party (Moderaterne). In a five-page report sent by current and former employees, a culture of bullying and sexism is described. Several key figures, including the newly appointed Minister of Digitalization Caroline Stage Olsen, are mentioned for their lack of action or direct involvement in addressing these problems.
Caroline Stage Olsen, who previously served as a political chief and special advisor to the Minister of Foreign Affairs Lars Løkke Rasmussen, has not yet commented on the allegations and has referred inquiries to the party leadership. In a statement from party secretary Kirsten Munch Andersen, she noted that the Moderate Party is not aware of the complaint but is ready to cooperate with both the Danish Working Environment Authority and employees who wish to engage in dialogue.
The report includes several examples of inappropriate behavior and sexist remarks. Specific statements such as “I just need to sleep with you and X” and “you can’t take her seriously in that skirt” are cited, though it is unclear who made these comments.
This is not the first time the Moderate Party has faced accusations of inappropriate behavior. Former members such as Jon Stephensen and Mike Fonseca have left the party under similar circumstances. Stephensen was known for sending inappropriate messages to a young member, while Fonseca had a controversial affair with a 15-year-old.
Moderate Party member Jeppe Søe has expressed concern over the recurring incidents. In a message to the party’s executive committee, he warned that the party could be facing a serious crisis that could further damage its reputation.
The allegations of bullying and sexism now place the party under critical scrutiny, raising questions about the leaders’ management of internal issues. It will be interesting to observe how the Moderate Party addresses these serious claims moving forward.
