On Friday afternoon, police initiated a comprehensive search operation in Knebel Vig after an empty boat was found washed ashore. Shortly thereafter, a man was unfortunately discovered deceased in the area. Michael Hamann, shift commander at East Jutland Police (Østjyllands Politi), confirmed to Aarhus Stiftstidende that the deceased man was from Djursland, a region in Denmark. However, no further details regarding the man’s identity have been released.
The report about the abandoned boat was received at 3:32 PM, prompting a swift reaction from the police and rescue services, who immediately began to search the entire Aarhus Bay. Michael Hamann explained that personal belongings found in the boat indicated that there might be a missing person, which intensified the search efforts.
In addition to the police’s efforts, private individuals and the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC) participated in the operation. The JRCC is a specialized department under the Danish Navy, responsible for coordinating rescue missions at both airports and at sea, as well as assisting in emergencies. The collective effort from all involved unfortunately led to the discovery of the deceased man, but the overall work demonstrated a strong spirit of collaboration in the search operation.
