A long-term friendship has now led to a new chapter in life for Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen (Social Democrats – Socialdemokratiet) and former minister Pernille Rosenkrantz-Theil (Social Democrats – Socialdemokratiet), as they have recently purchased a summer house together on Møn, an island in Denmark. The joyous news was confirmed by the two politicians.

Mette Frederiksen expressed that the purchase of the summer house is an old dream now coming to fruition. Both politicians are very pleased and look forward to spending time in their new shared retreat. Pernille Rosenkrantz-Theil added that the idea of having a common place on Møn has been in the works for years. Each of them has had summer houses in the area, and now they are taking the step to own one together.

Pernille Rosenkrantz-Theil recently stepped down as Minister for Social and Housing Affairs (Social- og Boligminister) and handed the keys over to Sophie Hæstorp Andersen, the former Lord Mayor of Copenhagen. Hæstorp Andersen will now take on this role while Rosenkrantz-Theil directs her ambitions towards the position of Lord Mayor in the capital, a position she is actively pursuing.

For Mette Frederiksen and Pernille Rosenkrantz-Theil, who have been friends for several decades, it is not unusual to blend personal life with politics. Rosenkrantz-Theil has made it clear that close friendships in politics are important, as one can otherwise risk finding themselves in a cold environment.

Rosenkrantz-Theil’s transition from minister to candidate for Lord Mayor has sparked speculation among political analysts about her role in the Social Democrats’ efforts to regain lost ground in Copenhagen. The upcoming municipal elections in 2025 will be a critical test for the party following a disappointing election result in 2021. Christian Rabjerg Madsen, the political spokesperson for the Social Democrats, explained that the appointment of Sophie Hæstorp Andersen as the new minister is based on her professional qualifications and aligns with Rosenkrantz-Theil’s desire to seek the Lord Mayor position.

While political agendas are being discussed, the two politicians are managing to solidify their long-standing friendship with a significant personal investment, which brings them closer together outside of the political arena.
