Man Sentenced to Two Years in Prison for Theft and Trafficking

A 37-year-old man has confessed to multiple counts of theft and handling stolen goods during a court session at the Frederiksberg Court on Friday, resulting in a sentence of two years in prison. However, one and a half years of the sentence have been made conditional, meaning the man will only serve six months in prison unless he commits a new crime within a three-year probation period.

In court, the man admitted to stealing six Harley Davidson motorcycles with a total value exceeding 1.3 million Danish kroner (approximately 195,000 USD). According to the court, the thefts, which occurred between August 2020 and June 2022, were carried out in a systematic manner, with the man specifically targeting valuable motorcycles, often collaborating with accomplices.

In addition to the motorcycles, the 37-year-old also confessed to the theft of a cargo bicycle and the handling of several stolen electric bicycles. The man, who has a prior criminal record for similar offenses, explained in court that he relapsed into criminal activity after meeting the wrong people in 2021. He also claimed that he did not personally benefit from the thefts.

Friday’s court hearing was initially scheduled to mark the beginning of a long trial with 21 charges against him, but the man chose to confess to nearly all charges. The two exceptions involved an attempted theft of a bicycle and the handling of 17 motorcycle frames, which he stated were used for repairing old motorcycles. Both the prosecution and defense argued for an acquittal in these two cases.

Although the 37-year-old accepted the verdict, the prosecution is now considering whether to appeal the case. They have two weeks to make this decision.
