On Friday morning, light rail traffic in central Aarhus was severely disrupted when a light rail train derailed near the Comwell hotel. The incident occurred around 11:30 AM while the train was en route from Aarhus Central Station (Aarhus H) to Dokk1, creating significant challenges for the transportation system.
Michael Borre, the Director of Aarhus Light Rail (Aarhus Letbane), confirmed the derailment, but the cause of the incident is still unclear. Special equipment is now required to get the train back on the tracks. A specialized crane has been called in to lift the train, and the process of removing it is underway. However, it is unknown when this operation will be completed and when the tracks will be ready for traffic again. While this operation is ongoing, light rail services in the area are significantly affected.
The light rail service has been temporarily modified, with hourly service now running between Grenaa and Vestre Strandalle in Risskov on line L1, and between Odder and Aarhus Central Station on line L2. There is no train service between Aarhus Central Station, AUH (Aarhus University Hospital), and Lisbjergskolen/Lystrup.
