Work Environment Issues in the Moderates’ Secretariat: Possible Legal Investigation on the Horizon

Concerns are escalating regarding workplace issues within the Moderates (Moderaterne) party’s secretariat, particularly voiced by Tor Madsen, the party’s regional chairman on Bornholm. Madsen has indicated that there may be a need for a legal investigation if allegations of bullying and sexism are substantiated. This revelation follows an article by the Danish tabloid B.T. which uncovered reports from current and former employees of Lars Løkke Rasmussen’s party regarding such matters to the Danish Working Environment Authority (Arbejdstilsynet).

Concerns Raised

“I am extremely worried,” Madsen stated, though he calls for more evidence before making a final judgment. “I would like to see the complete report and not just read about it in B.T.” The regional chairman emphasizes that an internal solution would not suffice should the serious claims prove credible. “If it is as described, then this is something we cannot handle internally. From my perspective, a legal investigation is necessary,” added Madsen.

Madsen explained that he first became aware of the alleged problems within the party just hours before B.T.’s article was published. “I was having dinner with a member of Parliament; we were supposed to discuss something unrelated. That was not the conversation we intended to have, but naturally, that was the only topic of discussion.”

Since B.T.’s revelations, Madsen has not received any further information from the party. Parliamentary member Jeppe Søe has also expressed his concerns in an email to party members, warning that the Moderates could face one of their toughest crises if the allegations are confirmed.

Party’s Response

The Moderates’ party secretary, Kirsten Munch Andersen, stated on Friday that she was unaware of the reports to the Danish Working Environment Authority but is available for dialogue with both the authority and employees seeking discussion. She also referenced the party’s code of conduct and expressed her readiness to implement further initiatives to improve the workplace environment if deemed necessary.
