Moderaterne (The Moderates) is facing a serious issue regarding workplace environment, as several current and former employees have reported severe allegations of bullying and sexism to the Danish Working Environment Authority (Arbejdstilsynet). In light of these accusations, the party’s leadership has called for an emergency meeting on Monday morning.
Party Secretary Kirsten Munch Andersen has sent out a message emphasizing that Moderaterne does not tolerate sexism and bullying. She also notes that the party aims to create a workplace where everyone can feel safe and speak openly about unacceptable experiences. “I take this very seriously,” she writes, inviting attendees to discuss the necessary steps forward.
However, in an interview with TV 2, Kirsten Munch Andersen expressed surprise at the accusations and stated that she does not recognize the portrayal of the situation being presented. The issue was first reported by the Danish tabloid B.T. on Friday evening, and the complaint to the Danish Working Environment Authority was submitted on August 15. High-ranking party members, including Kirsten Munch Andersen, Digitalization Minister Caroline Stage Olsen, and Communications Manager Ulla Østergaard, are mentioned in the complaint. They are accused either of ignoring the problems or being directly involved in some of the cases.
Members of Parliament Jeppe Søe and Karin Liltorp have both called for action. Jeppe Søe has demanded an “independent comprehensive investigation of Moderaterne as a workplace,” arguing that this is the only viable solution for the affected employees. Karin Liltorp has also been explicit in her statements, believing it is necessary to “clean up the mess” and address the toxic atmosphere.
Party Leader and Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen, along with Caroline Stage Olsen and Ulla Østergaard, have yet to comment on the matter. It remains to be seen how the party will handle this serious challenge and what concrete measures will be introduced following Monday’s meeting.
