In light of recent allegations regarding a poor working environment within the Moderates (Moderaterne), two members of the Danish Parliament (Folketing) have called for an investigation into the matter. Jeppe Søe, a member of the party’s executive board, is advocating for an “independent and comprehensive investigation” to protect the staff, he stated in a public statement.
The allegations surfaced after current and former party members filed a complaint with the Danish Working Environment Authority (Arbejdstilsynet), describing an atmosphere characterized by bullying and sexism. B.T., a Danish tabloid, was the first to report on the story, which has since been covered by other media outlets.
Moreover, Member of Parliament Karin Liltorp has emphasized the necessity of investigating the working environment, whether it be an independent or internal review. The situation has led to silence within the party, except for Søe and Liltorp, both of whom are calling for action.
The party leadership, including its leader Lars Løkke Rasmussen, has yet to comment on the matter. The allegations implicate several senior party members, such as Minister of Digitalization Caroline Stage Olsen, Party Secretary Kirsten Munch Andersen, and Communication Chief Ulla Østergaard, which adds weight to the demands for an investigation.
The complaint details inappropriate remarks and a general tone of disrespect. Anonymous employees have cited examples of sexist language, although specific individuals have not been identified as the sources of these comments.
Kirsten Munch Andersen has rejected the allegations, asserting that all concerns regarding the working environment have been taken seriously and managed internally. She also plans to meet with the party’s staff and intends to reach out to the Danish Working Environment Authority on Monday.
Jeppe Søe has warned in an email to the executive board about a potential crisis that could jeopardize the party’s existence. He expressed concern that the alleged issues could lead to significant damage to the party’s reputation. It remains unclear how Lars Løkke Rasmussen plans to address the situation.
