Danmarks Radio (DR) is planning to enhance its audio offerings by increasing the amount of live and current affairs coverage. In a press release, the public service broadcaster announced that several new initiatives will push the boundaries of how content is presented and consumed by the Danish audience.
Tine Godsk Hansen, head of DR Audio, stated, “We are working on many fronts to improve and adapt our content to the needs of the Danish people. Therefore, we will focus even more on live coverage and current themes in the future.”
As part of this strategy, the program “P1 Morgen” (Morning on P1), which typically airs on weekday mornings, will now also be broadcast on Sundays. This change allows for new ways to place content that traditionally would have aired on Sunday mornings. Similarly, “P1 Orientering” (P1 Orientation) will extend its broadcasting time to two hours on weekdays.
DR is also introducing a range of new podcast series and programs. For instance, the show “Hammers komponister” (Hammer’s Composers), hosted by Mathias Hammer, will explore the great composers throughout history. Additionally, DR is making strides to improve access to its existing catalog, which will now include music magazines and re-releases of classic shows like “Rytteriet” (The Riders) and “Chris og chokoladefabrikken” (Chris and the Chocolate Factory).
Tine Godsk Hansen further noted that DR will continue to offer more exclusive programs, similar to the popular shows “Sara & Monopolet” (Sara & the Monopoly) and “Brinkmanns Briks” (Brinkmann’s Couch). With these restructuring efforts, the content from P2, DR’s second channel, will also find new slots for broadcasting, the station added in the press release.
