Copenhagen police arrested a 58-year-old man on Thursday morning following a violent incident at a social psychiatric residence in the Copenhagen area. The man, who suffers from mental illness, allegedly attacked his 86-year-old mother with a knife during her visit to the Kollektivhuset (Collective House) on Bellahøjvej.
According to the police duty officer, staff at the residence alerted the authorities shortly before 11 a.m. after the attack occurred. Following the incident, the man barricaded himself in his room but was later persuaded to exit and was then arrested without further incident.
The mother sustained knife wounds to her chest area; however, her condition has been reported as stable. Initially, the police have categorized the incident as an attempted murder, but they have emphasized that the investigation is ongoing and may result in altered charges.
