Entertainer Martin Brygmann withdraws from Smukfest 2024 after documentary

The entertainer Martin Brygmann has chosen to withdraw from his scheduled performance at Smukfest 2024. The decision comes in the wake of a new DR documentary about sexism in the music industry, which has just been released. The DR documentary, titled “Sexism in the Music Industry”, uncovers several serious issues such as structural problems, abuse of power, and inequality in the music industry, as well as specific instances of offensive behavior and sexism.

In a statement from Smukfest, it is mentioned that they support Brygmann’s decision: “The DR documentary highlights structural problems, abuse of power, and inequality in the music industry, as well as offensive behavior and specific instances of sexism. As a consequence, Martin Brygmann has decided not to perform on Thursday, August 8 at Smukfest 2024 and elsewhere this summer. We support that decision.”

The revelations in the documentary have obviously had a strong impact on Martin Brygmann, who is now choosing to take a step back from the stage in solidarity with the message the documentary aims to convey.
