Many graduating students from Vitaskolen in Esbjerg can now breathe a sigh of relief. Most of the exam papers that went missing at PostNord have been recovered. This information was provided by the school principal Ole Lerke to Ritzau.
“Except for a few students, we have actually managed to restore all the exam papers on the computers. And we have not given up on the few students for whom it didn’t work,” Ole Lerke said. The last small group of students will visit the school’s IT department on Thursday in the hope of recovering the remaining papers, and it is expected that they will also succeed.”
The exam papers had to be restored because it is a standard procedure for students to delete their answers on the computer once the task is submitted. The problem arose on Tuesday when 51 written math exam papers went missing en route with PostNord between Esbjerg and the examiner in Aarhus. These were the original exam papers, and no copies had been made.
The school followed the exam regulations, which require the originals to be physically sent to the examiner. This meant that the students seemed to have to take a makeup exam in December, even though they all are moving on to other high school programs after the summer break.
Vitaskolen tried to find a solution with the Ministry of Education to allow students to pass the exam with their year-end grades, but the proposal was rejected. Now, the hope is that the remaining papers can be recovered and sent to the examiner without any further issues.
“We will have to consider which shipping company we will use now. However, I don’t think that PostNord will make the same mistake twice,” Ole Lerke stated.
