Danish Royal Couple Begins Official Visit to Greenland with New Titles

King and Queen of Denmark Begin Official Visit to Greenland

The royal couple has safely landed in Greenland after a slight delay, where they have begun their first official visit with their new royal titles. King Frederik and Queen Mary arrived Saturday morning at the Pituffuk Space Base in Greenland, marking the start of their eight-day stay where they will visit various parts of the self-governing territory. This was reported by Greenlandic media KNR.

Upon arrival, the royal couple was welcomed by the Chairman of Naalakkersuisut (Greenland’s government), Muté B. Egede, the High Commissioner, and other representatives from official Greenland. According to KNR, several citizens were also present with flags to welcome the royal couple, despite a slight delay due to poor weather conditions on the west coast.

King Frederik was dressed in a blue anorak, while Queen Mary wore a black outfit with a beige jacket upon their arrival, as shown in images from KNR. The visit begins in the northern part of Greenland, where the couple will visit Qaanaaq, formerly known as Thule, which is Greenland’s northernmost town. It was here that the king both started and finished his Sirius expedition in 2000.

After the visit to Qaanaaq, the royal couple will sail with the royal ship “Dannebrog” and visit several towns, settlements, and islands. They will also participate in a race similar to the royal event Royal Run. This will take place on Sunday afternoon, where King Frederik will kick off the Qeqertarsuaq Race, Family Mile for all island residents in Qeqertarsuaq.

It is also reported that King Frederik and Queen Mary’s youngest children, twins Prince Vincent and Princess Josephine, have arrived in Greenland, as announced by DR. The visit will last from Saturday, June 29th to Saturday, July 6th.
